Product label design

A label connects the brand to the container people actually hold. We organise product information and visual identity for jars, bottles and other consumer packs, using the supplier's confirmed label size and application area.

Where this format fits

  • Food jars, bottles and condiment labels
  • Personal care and cosmetic product labels
  • Front, back and wraparound labels across product variants

Agreed artwork deliverables

  • Agreed front, back or wraparound label layouts
  • A consistent variant hierarchy
  • Scoped SKU and size adaptations
  • Approved artwork exports for the appointed supplier

Prepare these before we start

  • Container photographs and confirmed label dimensions
  • Supplier cutting template and print specifications
  • Brand assets and approved product information
  • SKU list, barcodes and required language versions

The proposal confirms which master designs, variants, review rounds and exports are included. Printing and manufacturing are handled by your appointed supplier.

01

Design around the container

A cylindrical bottle, a tapered jar and a flat pack create different reading surfaces. Share container photographs, dimensions and the label supplier's template. We consider seams, curvature and the visible front area before settling the layout.

02

Give information a reading order

Brand name, product type, variant and quantity need a clear relationship. Supporting copy follows a consistent hierarchy so the label can remain readable as the range grows. We work from approved text and avoid using unverified benefits or product claims as decorative copy.

03

Prepare files for the label supplier

The supplier confirms cutting guides, bleed, adhesive, material, print process and any finishing layers. We prepare the agreed graphic exports to that specification. Test the printed label on the real container; a screen mockup cannot establish adhesion, colour or final type legibility.

Questions for your brief

Can you design labels without redesigning the logo?

Yes. We can work within your existing identity. Share the logo files, typography and colour guidance so the label uses the current brand consistently.

Who approves label copy and product claims?

The brand provides and approves all factual and mandatory content. Appropriate product specialists or advisers should review claims and required wording before the final artwork is released.

Can one label layout work across different container sizes?

Often the same visual system can carry across sizes, but each dimension needs a layout review. Long names, extra copy and different container proportions can require more than simple scaling.
