Box packaging design

A box is read across several panels, then opened. We build a graphic system that connects the front-facing product story, side-panel details and opening experience around a packaging supplier's confirmed structure.

Where this format fits

  • Retail product cartons and consumer goods boxes
  • Cosmetic and personal care outer packaging
  • Gift and presentation box graphics with supplier-defined structures

Agreed artwork deliverables

  • Agreed master carton or box graphic design
  • Panel-by-panel information hierarchy
  • Scoped size and variant adaptations

  • Supplier-approved dieline and assembled box dimensions
  • Brand identity assets and product range details

The proposal confirms which master designs, variants, review rounds and exports are included. Printing and manufacturing are handled by your appointed supplier.

01

Separate structure from graphic artwork

Your packaging supplier confirms the box construction, board, dimensions, dieline and assembly. We design the graphics on that structure. If the product needs structural development, establish that supplier scope before artwork starts so the layout does not have to be rebuilt around a later dieline.

02

Connect the panels

The primary display panel introduces the brand, product and variant. Side and back panels organise instructions and supporting information without competing with the front. We review panel orientation, folds and opening flaps so artwork remains coherent when the box is assembled.

03

Specify finishes with the supplier

Foil, embossing, varnish and other finishes need separate supplier instructions and may require dedicated artwork layers. The agreed handoff follows those instructions. The brand and manufacturer approve final copy, production separations and physical proofs before the print run.

Questions for your brief

Does box design include structural engineering?

The graphic design engagement uses a supplier-confirmed box structure. Structural engineering, material selection, fit testing and manufacturing must be agreed with the packaging supplier.

Can you adapt a box design into labels or pouches?

Yes, as a separate application within the project scope. The brand system can be shared, while each format needs its own dimensions, content hierarchy and production review.

Will a mockup show the exact printed result?

A mockup helps review the design direction and panel relationships. It is not a colour or manufacturing proof. Your appointed supplier confirms the physical result through production checks and samples.
